Ms. Bonita Sharma

Ms. Bonita Sharma is an enlistee amongst the BBC Top 100 most inspiring and influential women from around the world for the year 2019. A Public Health graduate Ms. Sharma, has been working in the field of health and nutrition of women and children through education. Already turning the tables on the state of young girls in remote areas of the country, she also vouches for the education they need to receive.
Ms. Sharma started her journey of helping women and children through her volunteer works from 2013 to 2015 on school campaigns, breastfeeding awareness, and earthquake response programs. Her long career of working in the field of health and education led to the establishment of Social Changemakers and Innovators (SOCHAI).
As the CEO of SOCHAI, Ms. Sharma is empowering women and girls through youth-led innovation, education, and social entrepreneurship. An example is an innovative tool that she developed, called the Nutribeads, for which she won the UNICEF Youth Innovation Challenge.
Ms. Sharma has also partaken in an intensive learning platform for young women supported by the UNESCO Malala Fund for Girls’ Right to Education, the Female Champions Fellowship. Her future plans include expanding SOCHAI’s educational and health related programs to aspire millions of girls and women all over Nepal.
