Dr.-Ing. Ramesh Kumar Maskey

Water and Energy Expert

Dr.-Ing. Ramesh Kumar Maskey is a professor of Civil Engineering with specialization in Hydraulic Engineering, Hydropower, and Renewable Energy Technology. He has recently been nominated as an Academician of Nepal Academy of Science and Technology.  

Prof. Maskey took responsibility as a Full Professor of Civil Engineering at the School of Engineering, Kathmandu University, Nepal, in March 2006. Earlier he served at the Institute of Engineering, Nepal Electricity Authority, and the University of Karlsruhe, Germany. He was a visiting professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2017, and at the Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi, Romania, in 2019.

With more than thirty-two years of professional experience in different organizations, his research, development and consulting (RDC) interests cover a wide range of subjects in the field of Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. In addition, Prof. Maskey is currently the President of Nepal German Academic Association; President of Goethe Center for Cooperation Partners; Research Ambassador of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Germany; Executive Council Member of UNESCO-NATCOM (National Committee); and the Coordinator of the UNESCOScience Committee. 

For his projects on rural electrification with tagline like ‘A Technological Lift to Ancestral Gift: Village Electrification through Watermill,’ Prof. Maskey has been bestowed upon with prestigious R&D awards from the World Bank, USA; Ashden Award, UK; Poverty Alleviation Fund, Nepal; and Renewable Nepal Award. His tagline ‘Every House: Energy House’ has been mentioned in the White Paper of Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.

A passionate teacher at heart, Prof. Maskey is the epitome of academic, social, and professional equilibrium in a human being.
